Twitter Halloween Icons and Thriller A cappella

Happy Halloween! Just wanted to share two cute things with you.

First, CHECK OUT THESE AMAZING HALLOWEEN ICONS FOR TWITTER. I am absolutely obsessed. I discovered them when @DieLaughing mentioned them in a Tweet, but I have no clue who the creator is. Show yourself!

Second, Adam Lasnik sent me a super cool 64-voice a cappella version of Thriller. The sounds in the beginning are pretty nuts, but the guy needs to work on his pitch (and falsetto) a bit. I give him a B- for vocal ability and an A+ for effort and creativity.

Enjoy and Happy Halloween!

Viral vs. Viral

Earlier today, I had a pretty heated debate with Mr. @Tibbon about the word “viral” or a video’s ability to “go viral.” He believes that any company that creates a video with the specific purpose to “go viral” will fail, simply because it will be associated with a company that has a clear corporate gain. These people are missing the point; “going viral” cannot be contrived.

While I agree that this misunderstanding of the beloved buzzword occurs far too often–especially in marketing campaigns–I also believe that if a video or piece of content is THAT good… it will “go viral” regardless who made it. Companies can have awesome ideas too. If it’s funny/cool/original enough, the public won’t hide it away and forget about it in fear of being part of a marketing ploy. People share what they like.

I also believe that something can be viral without “going viral.” For example, I think a video that a single person sends around to one or two friends has a viral quality. Can’t that person-to-person component be considered viral? Or is that only mildly contagious? How rampid does the disease need to be before it can be called “viral?” Can’t we create a gray-scale? What do you think?

I’ll leave you with this OK Go video. That went viral. Or did it?

DoInk.com Song (By @repcor)

One day I went online
With the hopes that I found find
A place where I could be creative.
What do you expect from a digital native?

Then I found a really neat site.
You made cool stuff and brought it to life.
Who knew that I could animate?
Now that’s sure something to celebrate.

CHORUS:
DoInk who would think that my drawings wouldn’t stink?
They have an octopus and he’s bright pink.
Oh don’t be a loser, make your battleship sink.
You wanna visit well here’s a link.
DoInk, DoInk, oh doink-adoink-adoink, DoInk

BRIDGE:
I like your work on that waning moon.
You should check out my puppy cartoon.

Didja think that I could DoInk
Like those guys on those blogs?
Well I made a man who’s jumping rope
And a big bunch of green frogs.

I’ve made so many friends.
They always comment, now don’t pretend
You don’t wanna join and start this too.
DoInk will bring out the designer in you!

CHORUS X2

This goes out to ‘Lil Inker.

SINGING FOR CHARITY!: Social media for social change donor contest

So the past month has been wonderful. Although sans the traditional FT job, I’ve been incredibly busy– specifically by volunteering for a developing charity organization called Social Media for Social Change (aka SM4SC).

Social Media for Social Change SM4SCMy dear friend Gradon Tripp started SM4SC earlier this summer simply because he wanted to raise money for a charity he holds quite close to him: Jane Doe Inc. Well! This project has snowballed into a glacier, and we are on our way to become a soon-to-be amazing nonprofit that will use social media to help charities all over the place.

So, I’ve been serving as SM4SC’s PR dudette for a while now, also working with fabulous PR/Social Media Agency sponsor SocialRadi.us. I launched our first news release last week and I’ve been chatting with reporters/bloggers to continue getting the word out.

Well. This has been awesome, and I’m in love with the traction we’re getting. However, I started thinking…how ELSE can I help? What can crazy Repcor do to get more people to donate to SM4SC and Jane Doe Inc.’s cause?

I KNOW.

I pledge to write a song about you, your company, your family, your cause, your dog, WHATEVER– to whoever pledges the highest donation to SM4SC. Note: this is a DONATION, not a sponsorship. This person’s/company’s donation will go directly to Jane Doe Inc. and will be tax deductible (minus tickets in your donor package, if you’re THAT much of a rockstar.)

Bidding will close on Friday, October 3rd at 5:00pm EST. I’ll then take the weekend to get the creative juices flowing, write up an awesome song about how charitable you are (throw in some of your corporate messaging, if that’s what gets your jollies) and the good people at SM4SC will throw it up on the website on Monday 10/6 (along with my blog, other people’s blogs, surely tweeted everywhere, dugg, you know the drill!)

So… let it begin! Your bids can be made by tweeting me @repcor or emailing me at rebecca@sm4sc.com.

Good luck!

A cappella tweeps in Twitterland. Thanks, Summize!

I think I found my favorite Twitter analytics application so far. It’s Summize Lab’s Realtime Twitter Sentiment, and I plan to actively use it to stalk every person talking about a cappella. Ever.

What really makes this thing cool is I can search by word AND geographic location. For example, I used a custom search operator looking for “music” near:”boston”, which showed me everyone in my area who is tweeting about music. Or you can use the super easy advanced search.

Think! I could potentially use this to find real a cappella singing Twitterers who live close enough to me to form an actual group.

Summize A cappella search

Also, I did a simple search on “a cappella”. As you can see, I’m currently dominating the conversation. So speak up, a cappella lovers! We must unite and make beautiful, beautiful music.

Anyhow. Amazing or what? I’m in love.
