Why Britney Spears still has a career (and why we can’t help but love her).

Apparently Britney Spears is the most-searched name right now on the internet. And honestly? I’m not surprised. Especially with her new album Circus coming out tomorrow (I’ve already listened to it through imeem– not bad), there’s a lot of reasons why she has not and WILL not go away.

1) Her producers and song writers are mad scientists. Have you heard Womanizer? Every time I hear that song, it gets stuck in my head for hours. Womanizer-Woman-Womanizer-You’re-A-Womanizer-Oh-Womanizer-Oh-You’re-A-Womanizer-Baby. It’s hypnotic and one of the more effective hooks I’ve heard. The first time I heard the song, I hated it. Now? I haven’t been able to stop listening to it because it’s so addicting. There are some smart, calculated people behind that girl.

2) Dance music is incredibly produced and only requires you sing three notes. And that’s all she can sing, really. (Perhaps five notes.) Regardless, each track is incredibly produced with loads of vocal-manipulation, so ultimately what we’re hearing hardly has anything to do with Britney and everything to do with the sound technicians behind her.

3) Her best songs actually reflect how nutty she and her life are. Her new album is called Circus. There’s another song on it called Mannequin (perhaps exactly what she is?). If she were creating an album called “New and Improved” or “I Am So Glad Everyone Thinks I’m Normal Again”… I don’t think we’d buy it. She knows people think she’s crazy, so she’s working it.

4) People love to see the underdog succeed, or at least struggle to get back on her feet. Britney has been through hell and back, and we’ve been disgusting voyeurs, watching and dissecting her ridiculous life for over five years. We all laughed and gasped during her horrible performance at the VMAs. People are dying to see if this is the moment when she can finally turn her career around in all her pop princess glory.

5) There is a large fan base of early-twenties women who are nostalgic for the Britney they discovered in their early teens. For this reason, so many women–myself included–cannot let her go and continue to love her unconditionally. Britney was something completely new when she released Hit Me Baby One More Time in 1998, as the majority of female singers in the 90s were angsty women hating their men. When Britney emerged, she was refreshing, young, beautiful and fun. Her original fans still long for the day when they get their old Britney back (perhaps some subconsciously), as unrealistic as that is.

Long story short? Britney Spears isn’t going anywhere, guys. Sorry. Too many people love her, like it or not.

I have to start out by saying that I love Britney and I am so pleased to see her in her current state.

3) Her best songs actually reflect how nutty she and her life are.
While we hoped that we’d learn a lot about Britney’s nutiness, last night’s “For the Record,” claiming that “no question was off-limits,” didn’t really provide a sense of how nutty her life really is. Other than the paparazzi stalking her constantly, we still have no idea if she’s sober, and what actually caused all of her breakdowns. There’s no doubt Britney’s life wackier than any of ours, but Britney cannot try to come out with a documentary saying that she’s normal while promoting an album called “Circus.” I don’t get it.

And early, er – mid – twenties men!!!

Great analysis of a question I’m sure a lot of people ask themselves!

Well, yes.
I can still freely ignore her for the most part. I hope she finds happiness and doesn’t hurt herself or anyone else. Can I go back to ignoring her now?

People like watching her for the same reason that they like slowing down for a car wreck, or the reason that everyone liked watching The Osbornes a while ago. It’s not because its’ good, but because people like watching other people fail.
I mean, people like looking up Lindsay Lohan too. At this point its basically a joke.
